Blaylocks of Swindon: A traditional shoe shop since 1920
Established in 1920 and run by four generations of the Blaylock family, Blaylocks of Swindon is a traditional shoe shop bringing traditional methods into the modern day.
Family run and independent
Based in Old Town, Swindon, Blaylocks is a traditional, family run shoe shop. We opened our first shop 96 years ago in 1920, and has since been run by four different generations of the family. At Blaylocks, you will receive a complete service, including a proper fitting.
The original shop was opened as a shoe repair shop in Gorse Hill, and relocated to Old Town in 1928. Over the years the business has gone from being a humble repair shop
to one of the South of England's leading independent shoe businesses.
Traditional methods in the modern day
The original store was opened by Robert Blaylock, and is now directed by his grandson David Blaylock, with the store being managed by David's son Mark. David, who is now 63, said:
"In terms of how we run the business, we have tried to maintain the same principles. We believe people come to us because of our stock, our staff and the service we offer.
We still endeavour to give personal service and carry a range of stock you wouldn't find in a normal high street store. We often have customers comment that it's nice to come into a proper shoe shop. It's the smell of leather when you walk in, and also the fact we still measure feet and give a service."
